The American Hebrew Academy was established to provide a co-educational college preparatory program and Jewish secondary education to intellectually motivated and academically able students who are prepared to engage in the rigorous discipline of its dual curriculum. Covers grades 9th-12th. The Academy, with a student to teacher ratio of 12:1, ensures that each student receives individualized attention.        
The limited-access pedestrian campus bordering a 22 acre lake, is balanced between natural areas, residential and athletic facilities and academic buildings. Student housing takes the form of large homes rather than traditional multi-story dormitories in keeping with the Academy's nurturing educational vision. Each residence houses 20 students living two to a room. In addition, a senior student advisor, as well as a senior faculty family and a junior faculty member each residing in private quarters, but under the same roof, provide adult supervision as well as a home-like atmosphere that encourages socialization and camaraderie among all of the house residents.  The campus also features a Bet Midrash/ Synagogue, a state of the art Library and Media Center, an Athletic Center and Natatorium, a Student Health Center, as well as a kosher Dining Pavilion and Student Union. The center of student social life is the Student Union which houses a sundry shop, a post office, a kosher snack bar, and areas for watching television, playing games, and social functions.
